Show night, hour by hour

A show night at Rama, hour by hour

The resort publishes enough detail — check-in, kitchen hours, door times — to plan a show night without guesswork. Here is how we would put it together for a typical Saturday show.

  1. 1:30 PMLeave Toronto. The official directions give 123.4 km and about 80 minutes via Highway 400 and Highway 11; our own no-traffic calculation from Union Station is about two hours, and Friday afternoon traffic on the 400 adds more.
  2. 4:00 PMCheck-in opens. Leave bags with the bell desk if you arrive early. Self-parking is free; hotel valet is $28 including HST.
  3. 5:00 PMEarly dinner. ATLAS steak + fish opens at 4 PM Wednesday to Sunday and runs a happy hour from 4 to 5; MATCH serves from 11:30 AM every day. On Friday and Saturday the Couchiching Court Buffet runs 4 to 9 PM (19+).
  4. 6:45 PMCollect tickets if they are not mobile: the box office in the link off the rotunda is open from noon. Bring the purchase card and photo ID.
  5. 7:00 PMDoors (typical for Saturday to Thursday shows; Friday doors are usually 8 PM).
  6. 8:00 PMShow (9 PM on a typical Friday). The resort does not publish running times; we plan on about two hours including a support act.
  7. 10:30 PMAfter the encore. MATCH is open until 11 PM Sunday to Thursday and until 1 AM on Friday and Saturday; Centre Bar on the gaming floor serves until 2 AM, 19+.
  8. 11:00 PMUpstairs. No drive, no Highway 400 at midnight.
  9. 7:00 AMThe pool and fitness centre open on the third floor; The Weirs serves breakfast in the lobby from 7 until noon.
  10. 10:00 AMThe Spa at Rama Resort opens. Arrive 15 minutes early and bring sandals.
  11. 11:00 AMCheck-out. Orillia's downtown and the Leacock Museum are about 15 minutes away by car (our calculation).

Friday is different

Friday shows usually start an hour later, at 9 PM with doors at 8. That gives a commuter from the GTA time to leave after work, but it also means the show ends near midnight. If you are coming on a Friday, a room is close to essential, and a dinner reservation at ATLAS for 6 PM is a sensible anchor.

Dinner reservations

The resort takes dining reservations through its call centre (1-800-832-7529, 9 AM to 9 PM), and ATLAS and MATCH also accept online reservations on their own sites. On big nights — the Righteous Brothers on 4 December or Russell Peters on 19 and 20 February — book dinner when you book the room.

If you are not staying

For completeness: the resort's VIP Coach runs from the GTA seven days a week for members of its loyalty programme, and charter operators run group buses. Both are covered on getting here. For a late show, though, the coach timetable rarely fits, which is why most people who make the trip for a concert stay the night.
